When I Save As, the save window is black?

So I have a very strange problem since I upgraded to Sierra.  About every 5th to 10th time i try to use it, the Save As and Save command screen come up black.  I have searched the internet over and have not actually found anyone with this problem. 

I have the latest sierra updates and am using a Macbook pro Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB with Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB. It is running Sierra 10.12.6

I have checked the graphics card, the hard drive and the processor and everything seems fine.  I use some hi-end hard-core mapping software that uses all my power, and that works fine.  The problem seems related to FCP X.  If I open it and use it for a while, then the save as dialogue for all programs turns black like this.  FCPX also crashes a LOT.  No other heavy programs like my mapping or 360 video stitching software cause this fault and they all work well. Every so often though it just happens, even when not using FCP X.

Imagine editing a stack of 120 raw still files, and when you go to program an action in Photoshop, this stupid problem happens.  The only way to fix it is to restart the machine, losing everything not saved. Ug.

I am a professional film and video creator who also builds and designs both hardware and software systems and I am at a loss.
