In the country I currently work and us travellers, the internet is slow and data is expensive. It would make great sense to allow email, account, app data to be shared over a local wireless network once owned Apple devices come within range of each other rather than via the web, as when one piece of data is pushed to the cloud, it’s costs two or more times the data based on how many devices you own, it would also be more secure and quicker, because it does not use the slow internet. This could be set to manual in a sort of enhanced air share, or set to automatic. Thus just one device need be connected to the internet and data pushed and pulled from all devices. Any device in the local group could be the internet gateway via settings selection and this deactivates the internet on other devices within range in the group so a preferred data sim for a particular country can be used for mobile data for instance without having to juggle SIM cards. Devices outside the group range would auto update once they fall within range.

This could concept could also be used for internet free group messaging and file sharing. Particularly, useful when on remote locations where there is limited phone signal or at venues

just a thought

That idea would severely compromise iOS security AND privacy.

The whole mobile device “bump” local device pairing thing is a bad idea and bad for Apple iOS users.

I am not even sure that this feature is still part of Google Android any longer.
