Don't show modem status

Years ago I had a telephone modem which plugged into a port on my MacBook. Worked great, but who cares in today's world. When I used it, I had Network prefer configured to show a little telephone handset icon in the menubar.

Fast forward to now - the icon is still there, but the Mew MB Pro, configured from the last MB, has no port for that, and I'd like the icon for the modem to go away. Can someone tell me how to get rid of the little dingus? Right clicking, or dragging out of the memu bar don't work, and I can't figure out how to get to a place with a checkbox to turn it off.

Press the command-key, click on the modem icon, and drag off the menubar to a cloud of smoke.

Have you looked in the network panel?

apple icon > system preferences > network.   You should see the modem in the list.  Click on it and see if there is an option at the bottom of the panel to turn on/off.

I use Bartender to get rid of pesky icon on the top right.

Yes, have looked - no longer have the modem config in the list. Tried to configure one but with no port to plug the modem into, that doesn't fly.

I'll look for Bartender, I guess.

Press the command-key, click on the modem icon, and drag off the menubar to a cloud of smoke.

Thanks Viking - a well hidden secret, I guess. Worked great.
