Where has airplay gone?

Using an iPad mini 4 on IOS 11.1

Apparently airplay was in the control centre in iOS 10. Now, the control centre only has "screen mirroring" and the iPad never shows up there. It just continues to say "looking for Apple TV."

Want to use airplay to screen record.

Hi. You can enable basic AirPlay (not mirroring) by tapping the "sound waves" in the upper right corner of the music player controls in Control Center. See screenshot below. But I'm not sure this will help. What device are you trying to AirPlay to? Also, iOS 11 has a built-in screen record function which you can add to Control Center.
