sync hangs on bookmarks

Hi,

iTunes is hanging for me on sync'ing bookmarks to my iPhone 6. I usually back up and sync everything to my PC via USB cable.

I've had problems with bookmark syncing for a while. To cut a long story short, some of my bookmarks ended up with their encoding being changed from ANSI/UTF-8 to UCS-2 Little Endian by a program I had (since removed). While they work fine in Windows/IE/Chrome, when it comes to iTunes it doesn't like them at all and it causes iTunes to hang (took a while to figure out this was the issue!), or if it does sync then these particular bookmarks don't appear on the iPhone. What's worse is changing the encoding back manually doesn't seem to fix the problem and again can cause iTunes to hang on sync. Seems like a bug in iTunes, it should be able to handle different encodings / changing encoding.

Anyway, I'm now getting another hang on sync'ing bookmarks and I think I must have changed one of these bookmarks recently, but I can't remember which one. I have lots of bookmarks so finding which bookmark is causing the problem would require some sort of log of what iTunes is doing, does such a thing exist?

Anyone else had similar problems and know of a fix? I have the latest iTunes / iOS.

Have you or has anyone else found a solution to this problem? I have two iphones, one of which is my work (iphone 6s) and the other my personal (iphone 6). I have had the exact same problem with my work phone for at least 2 or 3 years since I’ve had it new and have tried everything possible. A few months ago I started having the same problem on my personal phone. Both phones sync on different computers. Common answers on how to fix this have not worked.
