error message sending email

Internet Supplier has changed several settings for their email service (still using Mail).  Am having trouble with new system.  But I had been able to continue using Mail client, only with a one minute delay.  Cannot do so anymore. Have one email that will not go even with the delay, but I now no longer want to email it.  However, I get an error message (Mail) every few minutes a Retry notice, which is annoying.  It does not give an option to DELETE.  How can I stop this pest? Have removed email from outbox  and draft.  Sending the email is not an option now anyway, because of new sending email problem (Internet Provider).
