Family Sharing Question when others join

When I set up family sharing and an invitee already has data in their iCloud storage does that data transfer to the new icloud storage or do they just inherit the extra storage or what happens to their existing files, backups etc?

When they accept the invitation, their data transfers to the Family Sharing Storage. If they currently are paying  a monthly fee for additional storage, that can be downgraded to the free plan.
