original iPad isn't recognized by iMac

I have an original iPad model MB292LL that I restored for a friend. She had previously loaned it to an older friend who used it until she passed away. Now my friend wants some videos to be put on the iPad for a child to watch.  After I restored the iPad, I plugged it into my iMac Retina 4k running macOS High Sierra to load the videos via iTunes, however the iMac does not recognize the iPad at all (I did hold the control button while clicking Apple menu to access System Information and the iPad is not listed in USB menu).  The iPad beeped once when I plugged it in to the USB and showed a charging battery. When the iMac did not acknowledge the iPad I wiggled the cord to see if it was a bad physical connection.  After I did that the iPad began to beep very quickly and flash the charging battery signal in the top right corner and didn't stop until I unplugged it.  When I plugged it back in it started beeping and flashing again.  I do not have another plug to try for this older iPad to see if it is a problem with the cord itself.  Is it possible to load the videos in iTunes to this iPad?
