Is there any hope for a water damaged ipad mini?

I accidentally spilled some water over my ipad mini. I think the water got into the ipad thru the earphone jack. If spent about two weeks trying to dry it out.

The excess  moisture that was inside the screen has disappeared (after head and rice and all that sort of thing) but it will not switch on.

If I connect to the power, I can hear the audible beep that happens when you plug it in. If I leave it for a while, I can randomly hear Siri saying something like 'Siri cannot operate'(not too sure - I've always been too far away) and 'please connect to Internet'

This makes me feel there is something there but, I still can not turn it on.

Any help? Any hope?

there may not be unfortunately.

The water itself doesn't damage the device, but the short circuits the water causes does the damage. Anecdotally, people have reported success drying their device out, but usually the key is to rice it and leave it until it's totally dry. And avoid any power that may cause those short circuits. Since you've turned it on and such what damage there was to do is probably already done.

Just guessing, from what you;'re saying, the wifi part and the backlight/screen light seems to be damaged even though part of the operating system works (since siri can tell you she needs the internet)

You may be to the point of hoping Apple can grant you an out of warranty replacement (they don't have to when it's user damage) or looking for a new device.

If you decide to give up and replace

Apple will exchange for an out of warranty refurbished device at an Apple Store genius bar despite water damage

If you are in the US it will be $219 just seen you are in Ireland where it will be 219 Euros over the counter

However in Ireland you can mail in for a small charge or depending on how close to the border nip to Belfast where you would get an over the counter replacement

I bought it in USA but your right I'm in Ireland. I might take this route as excess on insurance is 250!

problem there Apple removed the International warranty and International post warranty from iPads when the mini came out

The warranty is only valid in US along with any out of warranty service.It is always worth a try,however a very real risk you will be told that is can only be exchanged in US .

If it is wifi only there may be a glimmer of hope but don't bank on it

I have been able to rescue ipad minis in this exact condition. What happens is, water penetrates and seeps inside the IC connector for the LCD and causes corrosion which interupts the LCD signal. It is not easy, but if you remove the front glass, and move the LCD out of the way, you can get to the LCD IC connector, unplug it, scrub it vigorously with a toothbrush and ISOPROPYL alcohol until the contacts are all shiny and new looking. Wait for the alcohol to dry completely, then plug the IC connector(s) back in and power on the iPad. Works, but only sometimes, it depends on the severity of the damage. Apple devices are designed with intentionally non-removable batteries, so removing all power after a spill (vital to preventing damage) is next to impossible.
