kernel panic, looks GPU related
I've been getting kernel panics over the last couple days. I think they are GPU related and seem to happen when I am changing from one window to another (ex switching from Mail to Chrome, or switching tabs on Chrome).
Here is the latest report:

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They should be more than willing to install a new logic board at no cost. I have no idea why this faulty GPU is making the headline here on the MacBook Pro forum so often now - could it be because Mountain Lion is just bringing the issue to a head more readily? I don't know - I only know that we're seeing more and more of these kernel panics of late.
Good luck,
Clinton

I have been having this exact problem and getting really frustrated trying to figure out the cause. Took it to the Apple Store today, they ran the test, found out I had a bad logic board, fixed it in under an hour with no charge.
Thanks to Linc and to the folks at Apple for stepping up!
Wow, I'm having the exact same gray screen kernel panics with the exact same MBP! Why is this happening to so many all of a sudden when it's never happened to me before?
But my MBP is now just over 3 years since purchase. Ugh. Am I going to have to pay to get this fixed?
Steve
Take it to Apple, they are extending special circumstances for this model.
Apple will service affected 15-inch MacBook Pro computers free of charge until three years from date of purchase. Apple will provide further extensions to this program as needed.
https://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Took mine in to Apple Store today after 3 panics just this morning. Failed the hardware test, so this is the issue. But it's 3 years and 3 months old, and they won't fix it for free. $350 if they send it out, more if done in store.
I agree that Mountain Lion is likely making this more of an issue, i rarely had crashes before and would have had it fixed long before now.
The same is happening here. Please Apple do something
First of all thanks to the OP for opening this thread! Found it by searching on the panic report details and ended up getting my MBP fixed free even though it was out of warrenty.
@gerald999
I had the exact same panic report on my 2010 Macbook Pro (15" Mid 2010) as the OP. I went into the Apple Store in Chicago they did the hardware test in which the video test failed. They didn't put up a fight and said they knew about this issue and have extended the warrenty time for this issue. I was 3 months out of my warrenty but they fixed it (new logic board) and it was at no charge.
Not sure why they would not fix it for free but it is a known issue and there is an official extention to cover this outside of the normal warerenty, good luck!
See my below post about your issue
Did you have to do anything special to get it done free? I am in the exact same boat: I purchased in May 2010 and the Apple Store would not do the repair for free. I'm on the phone with Apple right now trying to get a definitive answer on this. Did you have to speak to a manager at the Apple Store?
I read this thread and went into the Lincoln Park Apple store in Chicago. I explained it to the Genuis, he already knew about it. He ran the basic diagnostic and the video failed. I explained that I was out of warrenty and he said that would not be a problem because this specific issue has a warrenty beyond the end date of mine because it is a known issue. I expected to have to defend my position with facts from this thread but they knew about the issue and in 10 minutes they took my laptop for repair and I was out the door. I just picked it up today and no panics, even made them run the video test again when I was there to make sure I didn't get a faulty replacement LB.
When I picked it up the manager mentioned again that it was no charge because this issue was known.
I hope this helps.
Here is the exact model I have:
MacBook Pro 6.2
Intel Core i7
2.66 Ghz
Here is some of the info from my work order:

I have the exact same model as you and the Genius at my store ran the test, confirming I do have the issue.
Talking to Apple, they said that it's manager's discretion at the Apple Store whether or not to do this out of warranty (and extension program) repair free of charge. They even suggested going to a different Apple Store! I thought this was really odd unless it's because it's an in-store repair instead of shipping to Apple's repair depot.
Unfortunately, I'm going on vacation for 10 days (well, not that unfortunate), so I will probably try a different Apple Store when I get back. Wish me luck!
Definately try a different store, I have had the same experience where one store wouldn't address an issue while another did without going through any hoops.
Good Luck!!
