siri not working  os 11 ipad pro

How do I get Siri to work with the smart cover on the iPad?  Ever since I updated to OS 11 on my 9.7 iPad Pro Wi-Fi, Siri will not work with the smart cover covering the screen.  Prior to the upgrade, Siri would work regardless of the smart cover.  I have tried various solutions mentioned on other websites.  I am open to suggestions.
