When i start my laptop, it asks for name and password. The screen doesn't come like before. And I have tried every possible password. I didn't even change my password or anything.

It was on sleep for 3 hours. And when i re-opened it, it is asking for name and password. Please help. I have attached a photo of my screen.

Did you restart your mac? If not, do so. If you have it set to log in automatically to your account, that is what will happen.

If you did restart, and if you can't remember your password, your next step is to restart in recovery mode and reset the password.

Hold down option key while starting and select the recovery partition to boot your mac.

Select Utilities->Terminal

In the terminal, type "resetpassword" (without the quotes) and press enter. Choose the new password and make a note of it.

Then quit and restart your mac normally.

After you've successfully logged in, go to System Preferences->Users&Groups, click Login Options and set Automatic Login to your account.

Also, in System Preferences->Security & Privacy, set when and if to require a password after sleep.

If you go to system preferences > users and groups and click on login options and check the box of name and password .

when you log out and log in once again in the login window you will see name and password but the arrow is on left of enter password  as shown in your screen shot was it taken by a camera as it is in opposite direction . For normal working machine it always shows towards right .

There is no user to select.

And i have rebooted it many times. It is still asking for name and password.

I remember my password. And whenever i type that it is saying it's incorrect.

I can't open system preferences as i can't log in into my mac. I remember my password and everything. I think there is a problem. Whenever i type the correct password. It's showing it's incorrect.

Open Activity monitor via spotlight and take cursor on the top menu bar > view > click on windowed processes > if you see system preferences ( written in red color system preferences not responding ) select it > go to force quit > quit system preferences .

And also , enter into user library : macOS Sierra: Library folder

Find a folder preferences > right click on com.apple.systempreferences.plist to the desktop .

Screen Shot 2017-04-10 at 11.39.17 PM.png

Restart the machine and after few minutes view the user library > preferences > com.apple.system.preferences.plist should be created , once it is confirmed delete the plist from the desktop into the trash , restart the machine and empty the trash .

And did you deleted the your user account by mistake ? or was there an another account that is showing on login window .

And when you go into users and groups > select the account and click on minus sign a window appears as shown in the screen shot .

The , right method to delete an account is check the last option delete the home folder and click on delete user , possibilities are you checked the first option save the home folder in the disk image and deleted the user .

The login window can be set in one of two modes: "list of users" and "username and password".

Your mac is using the latter, so you have to *type* the username and the password (until you can log in and change your settings, naturally).

Are you sure you typed the userNAME exactly? In macOS there are two versions, the "short" name and the long name.

You have to type one of them exactly, and, of course, the password also.

For example, your long name may be something like "Kritica Yadav" and your short name (the one that will show next to your home icon in a Finder sidebar) may be something like "kriticayadav" (the short name can't have spaces and is usually all in lowercase, but that is not mandatory). Just giving you an example, of course, I have no idea what name you chose when you created your user account.

If you still can't log in then follow the instructions I gave you before for resetting the password.

If you have a Time Machine backup, now is the time to use it: Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support.

I saw that exact same problem occur a number of weeks ago, and as you wrote no user name or password was accepted.

I do not know what caused it, but reinstalling macOS from Recovery Mode fixed it: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support. Reinstalling macOS is nondestructive, which means it won't erase your existing User Accounts or data (assuming they have not already become corrupted).

I am also having this problem have you found a solution ? any help would be appreciated

Did you read all the replies? You just have to enter the correct username and password, then after you're logged in go to System Preferences->Users&Groups, click Login Options, and change from "Username and Password" to "List of Users".
