iWatch 3 for swimming (laps & HR)?

Hello,

I am in the market for a fitness tracker with the usual things (calories, HR, GPS distance, sleep etc) but I also really want it for swimming to track heart rate (HR) and laps (distance) in REAL TIME.

I am looking at Garmin and Apple.

After quite a bit of research, my understanding is that the Garmin 735 or 935 will track HR with the addition of a HR strap (this is OK), but that I can't get real time heart rate until I stand up in the pool out of the water which enables the HR strap to send data to the watch.

With the iWatch3, I believe you have to stand up out of the water, let it pump the water out, and then wait for it to reconnect to display heart rate - you can't see it while you swim as the sensors on the wrist can't track underwater.  Has anyone done this and how long does it take to actually display HR?

I am happy to input the pool length for the distance tracking if it will track laps, which I believe it does?

I have no interest in recording data on an app for swimming that I can review later - my main aim is to know how far I've swum in a pool (by introducing the pool length into the device) and to see it live as I swim, and to also see my HR live (or as close to it as possible) while I swim so I can see if I am pushing myself hard enough or maybe too hard.

Can the iWatch do this reasonably accurately?  Can it be paired with a HR monitor strap at all if that reduces the delay on the wrist sensor monitoring? Can anyone assist?

Thanks!
