Reinstalling MacOs from Disk Utility

My Mac is slowing down with a constant spinning rainbow. I went into safe mor=de and tried to use First aid but it still pops up constantly. If I reinstall MacOS from disk utility will i lose any of my stored data or pROGRAMS. or will it be likely to help? I am running Sierra 10.12.6
