Custom ringtones gone from my iPhone

Looks like an iOS update removed my ringtones that I purchased via iTunes. I can't find any way to have these purchased ringtones restored? I purchased these (not rented) on iTunes, so hopefully they be be restored or a refund from iTunes if these ringtones are not longer allowed?

Ringtones have always been one download per purchase. If you don't have back ups of the on your computer, you'll need to re-purchase them.

There was an iOS update that did cause some problems. At that time, Apple did allow a restore. I did finally dig up the help article. I don't know if they still allow this.

Restore missing tones on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 8.1.1 or later - Apple Support

If you sync your iPhone with iTunes on your computer, the ringtones should be in iTunes and you can select to sync them back to your iPhone.

Itunes has changed the way it handles different media files like tones and books and pdf files.  You now have the ability to drop those files directly on your device without necessarily syncing.   When you connect your device to Itunes on the left you wtill see your device.   Click on the device for the dropdown menu.   Find the media type your looking for like TONES or BOOKS.   In Windows then you can drag your custom tones or PDF files or Ibooks you have directly to the device.   It should show up instantly on your phone.  See the following discussion for more insights
