Can't delete 172 phantom songs (streams) that iTunes shows on my iPhone

So, I was trying to sync my music in OS X 10.9.3 into my iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.1) and was having issues syncing some songs and finally figured out that the songs were actually 128kbs streams which only show up in iTunes on OS X. I deleted ALL my music on my phone and no music is syncing from iTunes to the iPhone.

These phantom songs are preventing the real songs from being synced to the iPhone.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove these references?

I've got one phantom song.    I think it loaded wrong.   I have it in an unplayed playlist, but when I try to find the original, iTunes can't find it.   The search feature shows it, but when I go to it, it finds a song that is near where it should be.    After trying a bunch of other things, I deleted the physical copy - but that doesn't get it out of my playlist.

What is my next step?

I would like to know if anyone has solved this.  I have a good 40+ Phantom songs too.  And I think it is making it mucky for me to properly DL songs to my phone via Match.....

It’s flaky...

Try this...

Select the iPhone in iTunes.

Clickthe Summary tab.

Tick Manually manage Music & Videos.

On the iPhone, select these phantom songs and delete them.

Go back to the Summary tab , uncheck Manually manage music & videos, then click Apply & then Sync.

I'll try.....

I totally agree on weird.....

I also have turned off iTunes match and deleted any local songs.  But then when I switch to "Show All" (with itunes match off no less), it shows like 700 songs with a cloud icon.  I can DL those (with match off) and then swipe to delete, but then it stays with a cloud icon.

I just don't get it.

But I am going to try your solution for the phantoms in itunes...but the phantoms in itunes do not show on my phone.  it's like they are just stuck in itunes....

Yeah.....my situation seems a little different....your idea didn't work.

The image has what I am seeing in itunes.

I'll try and grab something from my phone for the weirdness there.

I am so fed up with what appears to be happening on the phone.......a **** fine 5s with itunes match.

I almost want to do a restore to factory and start from scratch....but I am not really going to.

They are iTunes purchases and are available to download.

But those songs are actually showing as on my iPhone. I can't do anything with them I can't select I can't delete I can't download I can't play when the phone is connected to iTunes it's just like there but not really there.   correction showing according to iTunes as on my phone but not actually on my phone

The dotted circle in front means it is in the database to sync but has not yet sync’d to the iPhone. So they are not yet on the iPhone.

I can't do anything with them I can't select I can't delete I can't download I can't play when the phone is connected to iTunes it's just like there but not really there.

On order to elect or delete them, you need to click the Summary tab across top.

Tick Manually manage Music & Videos.

Then you can delete.

That sounds reasonable.  Will try wen I get home later.  I guess I could tick them to sync, sync, then unsync

I Also have 2 songs on my phone that appeared when I turned off match that I can seem to get rid of.  I'll have to search and make sure they weren't ticked off deep in a list....

thanks ahead head of time for your help.  I'll report back tonight....

Chris,

Thank you!  Your help was awesome.  What it looks like I had to do was turn off syncing, as you suggested.  But it also looks like I had to redownload to the phone the songs that were greyed out.  At least it seems like I had to...who knows for sure with all the different things I had to do.

I had originally tried to manually put music on (with Match turned off on the phone) since Match was seeming wonky and doing some weird things when I tried to DL albums.  I am betting that the greyed out songs were confusing things.

I have turned Match back on........

And then I plugged my phone in again.......

UH OH.....

There are songs showing again in iTunes that are not on my phone.

I just don't get it.

At least at this point, Match seems to be correct on my phone.  I currently have nothing local and it is showing nothing local when I turn off "show all". But I am no longer having as much faith in Match as I used to (unless there is an iOS 8 thing complicating it all......

I Think I have figured one thing that is really confusing things....

itunes match on...playback via wifi... Then stop a song part way, leave music then change settings to turn off "show all".

wih that scenario I end up with songs in limbo.  To fix this those fully DL the song(s) and then I can delete.

And I think I have found one other contributing factor too.....and I think it alludes to something Chris said above....

I am not sure why, but I went into iTunes Store on my phone and clicked into more.  sitting there in downloads were 4 failed DLs.  I bet those were creating some issues too.  Deleted those form my phone/store fine.

This happened to me, and after 4 hours of searching, I finally found a post explaining to delete music usage ON THE PHONE, not in itunes. Settings>general>usage>music and hit edit, and clear it. I did a hard reset to make sure it applied, and then resynced. It worked for a few days, but when I resynced the phone the next time I added music, there were different unchecked songs on my phone that did not belong. This has happened three times now, and the songs are different every time. Clearing the usage always works temporarily, but it's a huge inconvenience to do this every time I sync. Has anyone permanently solved this problem? I've scoured the support forums and have seen every suggestion, and tried most of them. None of them have worked for me. I was running with iTunes 7 or something really old like that, and the problems started when I was forced to download itunes 11. If anyone has a solution, I--and countless others, I'm sure--would greatly appreciate it.
