HELP.. I just noticed there's a shared user on my macbook pro. What does this mean and how did this person get on my macbook? I have no idea who this person is and I would like them removed. I'm new to using a mac. Please help me. Thank you in advance for your help.
If you mean the folder /Users/Shared, that's not a user. It's for files shared by all users.

Hi Serenity- I would say no your Mac is not hacked.
Are you using a wireless router? Is it password protected, if not that is your first step.
Under the >System Preferences>Sharing you can uncheck any or all.
In iTunes check to see Home sharing is not turned on under Advanced.
Also >System Preferences>Security turn on your firewall and stealth mode as options
This will protect you from broadcasting your Mac.
If you are comfortable with Terminal.app you can enter the command:
who
Hi there. Thank you for your time and the information. I still can't get this person whom ever it is off of my computer. I did all the steps you suggested. I didn't have a bluetooth on. Also, I tried to do what you said in my itunes now I can't get my itunes to work or close. I keep getting the buzz sound when I try to close out... Im still new to using a mac. I apologize..
What do you mean by "this person?" What exactly are you seeing?
I think he means the 'Shared' tab on the Finder Sidebar.

Hi Serenity- iTunes, turn it back on if that what it takes to make it work.
As long as you have looked at your options and changed what is appropriate, you are fine.
The point I was trying to make is it is the other computer simply broadcasting that they have shared files/folders available for you to access. No, they're not connected, and they're not trying to connect.
If you do not want to see them in the sidebar you can turn that option off in Finder> Preference>Shared uncheck your options here.
No worries
I don't know. I had the same problem yesterday and the user was a guy at work...but I never gave him any access whatsoever. His name appaeared right in the SHARED list. After I texted him to stop, a minute later the name was gone. I can't proveit and I didn't accuse him of anything, but it's odd that it would show up there.
So, you're saying this user wasn't really on my Mac, he was just allowing me to share his files?
Hi I just noticed this with my mac with the shared user in finder. I have backed my mac up with an external hard drive will this be what am seeing with shared user ?
Can someone tell me what/who this user might be and how i can get them off of my laptop?
I read previous posts but wasn't sure whether the original posters issue was the same as this or not.
any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I'm new at OSX as well, but I've noticed that now and then my Windows 7 laptop would show up as well, but it would say connection failed . I clicked hide and at some point it stopped showing up. The Windows 7 is in the other room and I've come to the conclusion that Windows PCs will talk to anything out there if you let it.
Hello,
I had the same problem about 15 minutes ago and I had followed all he steps so the shared PC would go away. However, a new one showed up and when I try to do the same steps again its not showing up so I can uncheck them. What else can I do?
That's what's happening to me. What can I do?
Hi noahstrong23,
You don't have to do anything; no one has access to your computer.
Anything under "Shared" is basically your computer saying, "Hey, I see this other computer on the network. The computer says it might have files (or printers) that it's sharing with other people. If you'd like to view the files it's sharing, click me." (You'd likely need to know the username and password of the other computer to connect.)
This is showing you how to connect to another computer that is sharing stuff. It's not saying someone is on your computer.
Hey did you ever figure out what intel_ce_linux is? a friend of mine was trying to install something someone sent him and he installed it, nothing happened, but that intel_ce_linux appeared in the sidebar. Any ideas what it could be? he's concerned someone now has access to his system.
