MacBook Pro asking me to Reset Password on boot...

My MacBook Pro recently became unresponsive and 'black screens' during startup. Eventually it asks me to 'Reset Password' however after following the on screen instructions, changing my password, etc .... still nothing?

I had the same problem and read I should shine a flashlight though the apple on the back when the screen was black.  I was able to see the login icon and once I was able to get the cursor in the correct spot, I was able to login and the screen came back.

I didn’t know if this was a joke, but I tried it anyway... and it worked. I had put my screen's brightness down to zero, apparently the flashlight trick solves that problem.

This worked for me too. You can shine a flashlight through the logo as described but you can also use a powerful flashlight shone obliquely across the screen in a darkened room - useful if you have several logins or, like me, can't find the cursor using the logo method.

I neglected my MacBook and the battery was completely dead. The power up sound would play but my screen was black. Do the following and you should be able to login: Shine a light through the Apple icon on the backside of the laptop. Backlight the screen and login. Worked for me.

I downloaded the latest upgrade a few weeks ago to my 2010 MacBook Pro and kept getting the password reset message. Who knew it was because I couldn’t see the screen and was likely hitting keys to try to get it to work. I was BAFFLED until I read this thread. Holy crap, the flashlight fix worked. That’s just crazy!
