RFID keyfob reader for iPad

Hi,

I'm struggling with the usage of RFID readers connected to the iPad. Since one of the last iOS updates, these external RFID readers (connected with USB) no longer work.

From my understanding, Apple have decreased the power provided to USB peripherals, causing these units to stop working. I've been using the following two models, which now no longer work:

Here's an image of the keyfob (125KHz) which needs to be scanned. When scanned, they output a 10-digit number:

I've then tried connecting them via a powered USB Hub, which makes them work only sometimes. By disconnecting and reconnecting them on a different USB hub, as well as restarting the iPad, they sometimes work - but most of the time not.

Here's one of the hubs I've been using (I've tried 3 different ones):

Now, my question is; what other options do I have? Is there any official hardware or any workarounds that will enable me to read RFID fobs on an iPad?

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I've stumbled across your post whilst trying to answer my own questions. Apple sell a USB 3 Camera adapter that will power USB connected devices. Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter - Apple (AU) As the adapter has a lightening input as well as output. I'm using RFiDeas readers that work perfectly. I'm about to evaluate a device from serialio.com that connects over Bluetooth, with the expectation that this won't impact the keyboard.

My issue is that the RFID reader is connected as a keyboard, iOS then fails to present a keyboard when required.

Does anyone have a answer to this? I've tried a 3rd party keyboard app but iOS does not call it for certain pages so i have to disconnect the reader and reconnect when finished.
