Will Apple help combine Apple IDs if I buy a ne...

I see many posts that complain about the policy of Apple not to combine IDs. I just got a new laptop and would like to upgrade my IPOD, BUT I don't want to lose any music, and in fact I'd like to have all my music on 1 device that I can access, backup and restore if necessary. Right now I cannot and if I buy a new IPOD it seems I won't be able to then either.

Why do you need to combine IDs. Can't you simply sign into the iTunes Store on your new laptop with your existing ID?

The reason is I have 2 IDs. Through the years and after having had multiple laptops, I had created a new ID (2nd ID) years ago, my bad I know but now I have 2,  each with a set of music attached. If I backup or restore I will only get some of my music depending on which ID I am logged into. I don't see why Apple will not allow ownership of multiple IDs and sets of music to be collapsed into 1 set.

I want to buy a new IPOD but I refuse to sink any money into this unless I can get all of my music legitimately onto the new device. I've talked to techs at Apple who agree the policy is not current and creates angst for those in this predicament.

I wonder if Apple would credit me the amount I spent on one of the ID's so I can turn around and buy the same music on the current ID that I have. Then I could finally but the latest, greatest Apple device to port my music.
