duplicate exchange calendar sierra

Clean install of macOS Sierra and then added my Internet accounts.  iCloud and Gmail work fine, but when I added my Exchange account, all calendar entries are shown twice in Calendar.  In OWA, the calendar looks normal, so I assume it's not on the Exchange side.  I removed the calendar from the Exchange account, reboot, opened ~/Library/Calendars and deleted the .exchange calendar, re-added it, and same problem.

I want to add an update.  I created several new meetings today using my Exchange calendar and they only appear once, alongside all of the others that appear twice.  So it appears to have only duplicated the events during the initial setup of the account.

i have had exactly this problem. I set up a new iMac with Sierra, allowing iCloud to setup internet accounts. iCloud, Google and 2 IMAP email accounts set up fine. My change account had all events in the main calendar showing up twice. OWA, my MacBook and iPhone all show them only once. Even stranger - looking in the Library/Calendar folder, there is only one file for each event!

If I delete 1 event - the duplicate will disappear a few seconds later.

If I move the event to another calendar, the duplicate disappears.

New events only appear once on the iMac.

BUT - the new events appear duplicated on my MacBook!

iPhone is perfectly happy throughout.

Strangely, the clean setup iMac has the Calendar refresh as 'push', whilst the MacBook doesn't have this as an option - only the 5 / 10 / 15 mins or manual.

I have this issue as well and it's quite frustrating. I have rebuilt the Calendars cache twice now. It appears to only happen with events I'm invited to. One copy of the event shows all of the attendees, and another copy just shows myself (as though it was created by me, which it was not).

I solved my issue by:

  1. Removing all of my calendar accounts.
  2. Closed Calendar.app
  3. Going to ~/Library/Calendars
  4. Removed all files in this repository
  5. Reboot the mac
  6. Add my accounts again

Problem solved!

Thanks, because these steps resolved the issue for me.

This worked for me!

Henri_from_Issy - this worked for me, thanks!

Oh my! You just saved my day Thank you

Thank you very much for these steps.   I did slightly different steps, but yours pointed me there.

In ~/Library/Calendars folder, I noticed that there were 2 separate folders ending in ".exchange" on my computer that had the duplicate events.   On my other computer, which did not have the duplicate events, there was only 1 folder ending in ".exchange".

I first removed the Exchange Account from my Internet Accounts.   After that, I noticed that these 2 folders ending in ".exchange" still remained.   So I deleted both of them (and left all other folders alone).   Then I re-added the Exchange account.   Once it fully synced again after a few minutes, it had re-created only 1 folder ending in ".exchange", and my calendar events are no longer duplicated!!

So it seems that whatever bug initially caused the problem had created 2 folders ending in ".exchange", and removing those folders will solve the duplicate problem.   Finally!!

How do you get to the calendars folder?  I can't seem to find it.
