sync notes across devices

I am signed in with the same iCloud account on multiple devices and have Notes toggled on to be synced, yet notes are not syncing. I wrote a note on my Mac and it is not appearing on my phone. Any tips or suggestions?

Are you using more than one account (besides iCloud) maybe it's syncing with another account:

Settings → Notes → Accounts → Do you see more than one?

If so check in each one if Notes is turned on for it

Also check Settings → Notes → Default Account

If they're syncing with another account, you can move them in the Note app from the other account, into iCloud account

I, too, have things set up as recommended.  My notes don't sync either.  Could it be update needed?

Am told on iTunes that my software is up to date, but....

Am told that there is insufficient storage to update to 11

-- MabBook 12"  Sierra, 10.12.3

Am reluctant to upgrade because of what happened to my photos with the Sierra install.

A ridiculous number of "albums" were added, which I hadn't created of very few photos each.

Anyway, those are peripheral problems, if anyone has advice.

But basically, I want to get notes syncing so that even a small addition to an existing note will sync across

my Macbook12", my iPHone, my iPad, my husband's iPhoneSE, and my husband's MacBook Pro.
