Unintentional switch off of watch
Has anyone had the watch turn off by accident ?
I wear mine on my left wrist.
Last week my watch 2 switched off whilst I was at home.
As it happened I upgraded to watch 3 couple of day ago and this did the same thing.
I guess somehow my wrist angle must have activated the button. ?
Forgot to say crown is facing my hand, ie on the right of watch
Hi
Apple Watch cannot be turned off just by pressing a button, but it can be force restarted by pressing and holding both buttons for an extended period of time (which should not be done unless your Apple Watch is unresponsive and cannot be restarted normally):
If that does not explain the issue, then it is not normal for your Apple Watch to turn off unexpectedly.
Whilst I can't say why that happened, the following steps may help to prevent the issue from recurring:
- If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone to the latest software:
- Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:
- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
- Restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support
- If the issue recurs, close open apps on your iPhone and then restart both devices again.
- Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app.
- Initially choose to Restore from Backup during set up (most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions, such as Apple Pay cards, passcode).
- If the issue persists, consider instead unpairing and setting it up as a new watch.
- Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support
If the issue persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to having your watch checked and, if recommended, serviced:
Thanks
Everything is on latest software.
The fact I did it with watch 2 earlier in the week and watch 3 today suggest I must have activated forced restart by accident.
Maybe I will turn watch around so its on still on left wrist but with crown on left.
To change the configuration of your Apple Watch:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Watch Orientation > choose the preferred wrist and side for the buttons.
Thanks, yes know how to do it was just wondering if any other people have same problem.
If your Apple Watch was turned off when you noticed the issue and needed to be turned back on, then you had not force restarted it (which, as the term suggests, shuts down and then also restarts the watch).
Some other users (under various versions of watchOS over time) have experienced unexpected shut downs of their Apple Watch.
If this is what you have experienced, then I suggest following the steps in my previous reply, which may help to prevent the issue from recurring.
