Watch Repair Costs

I dropped my Apple Watch today.  The screen cracked.  No damage to the frame, but the glass would have to be replaced.

I made an appointment at the Apple Store.  I was told that to replace the crystal on the watch would cost $315 (Canadian).  New watches start at $325.

There is nothing wrong with the watch.  It continues to function as normal.  I cannot understand Apple's 'repair' policy.  Who, for one, thought this was a good design, if this is the real cost of repair?  If it is not the real cost of repair, who thought this was the way to treat a customer.  I have purchased just about every Apple product ever produced - even the original Apple TV - to the point where it is a standing joke with my friends. 

I have to say every other time I have left the Apple Store I have felt very impressed with the way I was treated - now i i feel like i have been punched in the face.  And the guy at the store is not to blame - he did not set this ridiculous policy and this insulting 'repair' price.

Apple does not repair most devices.  They replace the device with new or like new devices.  The exception is some iPhone screens can be replaced in store.  This is not currently true for watches.

If you had purchased Apple Care + for your watch, you could have used one of the 2 included "incidents" for a discounted repair.

I always purchase Apple Care but it expired on the watch four months ago.

There is nothing here for Apple to be proud of. 

It is beyond me why Apple would intentionally design a watch that is essentially junk after a minor incident like this - crystal repairs on a watch should be pop out-pop in.   

Shame on Apple.  Never thought I would say this but since i need a  new watch, i will be looking for a different brand.
