My sons Ipad is acting very strange it randomly...

And after a few minutes of him playing on it, it will turn back off. Does anyone know what this could be???

Looks like your hardware is failing.  The iPad needs to be serviced, you should make an appointment with the nearest Genius Bar at an Apple Store and have them take a look at it.  They will be able to discuss options available to you for getting the device replaced.
