The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked ...
I keep on getting this error when trying to open iTunes. I just reformatted my drive. OS X Lion Server is my OS
"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
Please help. I have tried to repair disk permissions as recommended in other inquires.
Hi everyone, found this thread via Google Search. Tried what was suggested, but no luck. Did some more seraching and found this tip, which did the trick. Hope it helps.

Select the file in the Finder - Then 'Get Info' - at the bottom in the 'Sharing and Permissions' section - unlock the icon of the lock - use your Admin password to do this. Change the privlege to Read and Write.
You can do the same for a folder, file, HD, etc.

So this did not work for me. I unlock all 487 folders last night giving me read and write permission and I still get the error when I try to open iTunes.
You state that it is the Library file that is giving problems - did you add yourself to the list in Sharing and ..... From Get Info of the Library File?
MJ
I don't understand your advice. Perhaps you are speaking MAC language and I am on a PC. I am getting the same error message everytime I go to open ITunes all of the sudden. I have no idea what happened and can't find a way to fix it. I have gone to download Itunes again, and did a repair, but still the same problem persists. HELP!
Andrew
This is the iTunes for Mac and here it is in the Mac language.
You need select the HD or file and right click and go to properties.

My Library is on an external drive.
I got the following message:
"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I tried unlocking the folder and verifing the permissions. I noticed on the GetInfo dialog box that the permissions area and the lock icon were greyed out, but I was still able to click on the lock to authenticate.
that didn't work. I also tried to reapply my permissions to all folders within the Library folder - I used pathfinder to do that. I'm sure there's an easier way in terminal.
The solution was to eject the disc and then reconnect it. I relaunched itunes, and it worked.
I have a similar problem. Altho mine is on a new MacBook Pro. Tried the various ideas suggested. Still didn't work for me.

I just had the same problem on my iMac. It was easily resolved by moving the 'iTunes Library.itl' file to my desktop, then I restored the file from my last Time Machine backup.
Hi all, I was stuck with the same problem for a while den just deleted iTunes folder from music catalog and after was able to open iTunes normaly exept all data was lost.. however just dropped all my music files to iTunes and got all albums right back in to place. Used windows runing on parallels to delete iTunes folder.
Hope you find it helpfull ツ
Try this--it seems to have worked for me: https://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-apps-games/245774-itunes-folder-locked.htm l
From the site:
You can actually just fix those permissions.
- Go to: Macintosh HD > Users
- Right-click on your user name (home folder) and select Get Info.
- Click the lock at the bottom and enter your password.
- Your permissions at the moment for that folder should be Read & Write for you, Read only for staff and everyone.
- Click the gear icon at the bottom, and select Apply to enclosed items.
The last step will take a few minutes to complete, but once done, everything in your home folder should now have their proper permissions.
I got the "locked library" message and spinning beachball twice, and had to force quit both iTunes and do a forced restart. Now everything seems to be running well.
Thanks so much, LP. I tried several solutions suggested by others, none of which worked. Your post took me to a solution which worked perfectly.
Pete
Worked like a charm. My iTunes folder recursively, not needed in my media library which is on a networked drive.
The "iphonestuffs4u" link does not take me to anything useful--only ads.
