What's the maximum resolution for external disp...

Hi,

I have a Macbook Pro (Late-2013) with the following specs:

  • 2.3Ghz Intel Core i7
  • 16 GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (2GB)
  • 512GB SSD

My questions is: What is the maximum resolution that I can output at say 60Hz?

I am in the market for a 27" monitor for Xcode development and want to get the largest resolution that I can for the time being. I know it will definitely handle 1440p but will it handle Ultra HD OK?

Any recommendations on monitors that fit this bracket? I would consider a 25" but it would have to be nice.

Cheers

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) - Technical Specifications

Caution: HDMI was designed for HD TV. It works GREAT with moving pictures at up to 1920 by 1080p.

Above that resolution, there are some hacks that can be applied to get higher HDMI resolutions, but they often involve "black magic" that may not be repeatable on a particular system. Despite you best efforts to obtain the highest-resolution adapters, cables, and changes to settings in the display itself,  you are often left with less than the highest resolution, or less than an optimal refresh rate, or both.

The best interface for resolutions higher than 1080p is [Mini] DisplayPort or [Full size] DisplayPort -- different only is the size of the connector. The displays are higher quality, and higher refresh rates are always available, essentially "for free", because the displays have a screen buffer.
