I need to export a csv file to contacts on a ipad.

I need to export a csv file to contacts on an iPad.   The file was created when I exported contacts from live.mail.com account on an ancient PC laptop. The laptop and the ipad are not synced

I found this ipad app:

Smart Contacts (the paid version only installs after you download the free version).  I used it with the mac app CSV to VCard.

Do you have an iMac or access to one?

Hi:

Thank you for responding.   Yes, I have a mac book pro.

Pat

The iPad contacts app can't do anything with that CSV file. However, if you are syncing both the Mac and the iPad via iCloud, you should be able to import it into the contacts app on the Mac and populate the contacts on the iPad.

My elderly friend whom I assisting with this.  Has an ancient PC.   Can I synch her ipad to her itunes account using my mac book pro?

I have an ipad and and iphone which are synced to my itunes account on my ipad.

Thanks,

Pat

Great, then that makes it easy. Use Contacts on your Macbook to import your CSV file into your Contacts. The in Settings turn on iCloud sharing of your contacts on your Macbook and your iPad. All the imported contacts will appear in your Contacts on your iPad.

How will I be able to keep my contacts in mac book pro, separate from the contacts I am importing for my friends ipad?

Pat

I didn't know it was not your contacts. Then just e-mail the file to him on the iPad then import the attached file into his contacts.

I did email the .csv file to my friend's ipad with her present.  Then I opened the email, but was not able to figure out how to import the file into contacts...any help is appreciated!

Hold down the attachment and you'll get option to "Open in xxxxxx" then save the attachment to the application you want to save it to. In your case make sure the filename of the attachment ends in .csv

That because the Contacts app cannot do anything with a CSV file. The only file format it will recognize for creating contacts is vCard (.vcf).

Maybe one of the mac apps below would help?

Contacts Manager - https://macappsto.re/us/fuiy2.m

CSV to VCard - https://macappsto.re/us/CGaHQ.m

I can't seem to find an ipad app that would do the trick.
