iPhone 8 Restore from PC backup file

Last night (10/11/2017), I backed up my iPhone 6 knowing that I was purchasing an iPhone 8 the following day. I bought the phone as expected oand took it home to begin the restore process. I plugged it in and began to restore from the file saved on my harddrive. I received an error message in iTunes and was given the option to update or restore. Meanwhile, my phone was caught in a reboot loop and kept restarting. I could not turn it off and tried a hard restart (up speak volume, down speaker volume, side button), which did not work. Finally, I learned that the USB cord was not compatible. I used the one that came with the phone and my phone came to life again.

Next, I tried to restore my phone using my saved backup from last night. Unfortunately, I received the error "iTunes could not restore the iPhone because an error occurred." I tried to reboot the computer, but I still received the same message. My phone IOS version is 11.02 and my backup is 11.03. I am not sure if that is causing the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
