Downloading iPhone photos without using photo app

How do I download iPhone photos to a Mac without using the annoying photo app?

PS I tried to ask this question on the iPhone forum but received this message.

"You are not allowed to create or update this content"

Connect your iPhone to your Mac. Launch the Image Capture utility from your Applications folder.

You can also make IC the default app to open when you’re iPhone is connected.
