Want Documents folder off iCloud

Somehow, in the last Sierra update, my Documents folder got transferred to iCloud instead of staying on my hard drive where I want it.  I want to get it back on my hard drive and out of iCloud without losing any of the data.  How can I accomplish this?

I think this is also causing  the batteries on my iPad and iPhone to discharge more quickly.

  1. From your Mac, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
  2. Next to iCloud Drive, click Options.
  3. Deselect Desktop & Documents Folders.
  4. Click Done.

Thank you.

After I deselect Desktop and Documents, will my folders be back on my hard drive without any further effort, or do I have to copy them all back?

Will my programs recognize the change of venue from iCloud to the hard drive or will I have to open each file from its "new" location on the hard drive?

"When you turn off Desktop and Documents, your files stay in iCloud Drive and a new folder is created on your Mac."

Awesome to have that ability but what if you want both all at the same time. Call it a carbon copying -- that is, having originals on both the iCloud and the laptop. Look, I love the cloud but never leave all your eggs in one basket. Never. As such, it would be nice to have any document (pages, numbers, etc) on both the cloud and the laptop or Mac simultaneously updated. I thought this always happened when the iCloud was turned on but it seems that this is not the case. Also, what it the iCloud archive versus the iCloud folder? Why the archive? Also, I LOVE having a discernible file management. Having MULTIPLE folders harbouring different documents that once used to be in one directory with sub folders seems somewhat convoluted. Now I have files within the iCloud archive, the iCloud drive, missing files from the user (Clint Boyko) documents directory, and one file MISSING altogether. As I am working on a compilation book of stories and recipes, I cry when I lose any of my work... (Yes, grown men can cry...)

How do I keep things simple, proficient, and ORGANIZED. Simplicity, you see, is the key to success.

Sincerely,

Clint Boyko.

Sub Note: Well done on the iPhoneX. It will be a leap forward in regards to our ever evolving social behaviours and trends. Sadly, I fear we humans are trying to catch up to the speed of the current processors and devices. I hope devices will not only free us from the constraints that keep many from expanding their talents but also ENSURE WE DON'T LOSE THAT WHICH MAKES US HUMAN -- Curiosity, love of the simple pleasures, the crave and pursuit of adventure, personal culturing, social contact (i.e. love and social gatherings), the realization that smelling the roses must be part of life, compassion, and perhaps the most important rule of all: we all live for purpose. What we pursue compels us and defines our very stories. To best understand each other and endure as a group, we must learn to understand that which drives us (individually), and find the compassion to help each other taking in account those powerful motivators. (This cannot be done if we aim to always catch up to technology.)   Going on a bit? I do digress on occasion. But this is why I find great hope in Apple's progression. The amazing team at Apple works hard at modelling technology around humanity and not the other way around. Well done!

Nice (although wildly off topic!) post,

The amazing team at Apple works hard at modelling technology around humanity and not the other way around.

This is what attracted me to them many years ago, and what's kept me with them, despite a few bumps in the road.

Their latest, greatest leap forward, in my opinion, was the Pencil with iPad Pro. Greatly under publicised, but a big step in interfacing with technology. I think even Mr. jobs would have approved!

Now, back on topic.....
