iPad not working right with bluetooth speaker a...
I have a little Amazon Micro Bluetooth Speaker I've been using with iDevices. It's nothing fancy, but offers about 20% more volume and a fuller sound than the built-ins speakers on my iPad, iPhone and iPod touch – as well as convenience, as I can put it most anywhere in the room. Very nice. I used it every day with the iPad until a couple months ago, when I switched to the iPod touch as my source for music and other audio content.
A few days ago I upgraded my iPad Air (iPad 4,1) to iOS 11.0.2. As usual with major upgrades, I did a fresh, clean install: erased the iPad first, then installed the OS, then rebuilt the setup. Everything seems to work fine, and I rather like some of the new/changed features – though I find iOS 11 noticeably slower in many operations.
But I've just discovered that the Amazon speaker doesn't work properly with the iPad any more. At first it produced no sound at all, then after trying a bunch of things – shutting down the iPad & starting it up again, doing a force restart on the iPad, turning Bluetooth off and on again, turning the speaker off and on again, and other procedures all of which I don't remember – the speaker now produces sound, but only about 10-20% as loud as the iPad's internal speakers.
I have two of these speakers, actually; both work fine with the iPod touch and the iPhone 5s (both still running iOS 10.3). But I can't get either to work with the iPad.
One of the things I've tried was to tap "Forget This Device" in Settings > Bluetooth > Amazon_BT4. A little dialog says: "Forget Amazon_BT4. Pair with this device to use it again." With a "Cancel" button and an "OK" button. I note the OK button appears in red, which seems odd; the Cancel is in the usual blue. I tap OK, the dialog disappears, but apparently the iPad doesn't forget the device, as "Forget This Device" is still there. But then I return to the Bluetooth pane, and it doesn't see the speaker, though it's on and only about 3 inches away. I turn the speaker off, turn on the other one, and the iPad sees it. I turn that speaker off, turn on the first one, now the iPad sees it – for a minute or two, then it doesn't see it anymore.
I have no other Bluetooth devices – though all the iDevices see something called "NS-SB316", whatever that is; maybe something in the next apartment? The iPad just went to sleep; I woke it up again, and now it sees NS-SB316, but doesn't see the Amazon speaker at all.
Does anybody have any idea what's going on? What can I do to get the iPad to work with the Bluetooth speaker again?
