What type of flash memory does the iPad Pro (1st and 2nd gen) use?

Hi. Try searching the web for a teardown. That should identify the chip type number.

This seems like a funny question. Why do you need this?

i dont know for sure, but from what i have read, it seems like some forms of flash memory has more problems with wear-out, in which the oxide layers that traps electrons gets broken down and will lead to multiple errors in the memory-system. A typical/good NAND flash memory (which ipad pro has), is supposed to last between 3 and 5 years. Just curious to find out which type of NAND the ipad uses, so i can know how long of a lifetime in good health can expect from it

Interesting. Follow my hint and see what you can dig up. But I think Apple designs devices so that software obsolescence or battery failure determine useful life. People are still using iPad 1 from 2010, even though the software hasn't been updated in 6 years.

Reportedly over the years Apple has used both Toshiba and Samsung flash storage. An in-depth analyses of Samsung chips (reported a few years back in Kroll Ontrack)  inidicate that at 10-20GiB If writes per day, their chips should have an effective lifespan of 10-20 years.

Current lifespans of Toshiba TLC chips, using a benchmark of 2TiB of data written annually, indicate useful life spans of much greater than 25 years.

One thing I found in a recent tech news post that amazed me though - Apple alone in their products apparently accounts now for 18-20% of the annual global NandN chip production.  When you think about how many products use NandN storage (control units in your car, refrigerator, television, Alexa thingy, home security systems, e-readers, other tablet, laptop, desktop, server manufacturers, smart watches, exercise machine head units, home weather stations, ... the list of consumer and commercial uses is endless) that’s astounding.
