Why did my playlists disappear from my iPhone?

My iTunes playlists have disappeared from my iPhone 6 and I can't figure out how to put them back. The playlists are still in iTunes. The only playlist that still shows up on the phone is the Purchased one. I've tried many of the solutions suggested in other discussions but with no luck.

Poor form to reply to my own post, but I just sorted this out in my case.

I had to go to Settings > Music and switch on the iCloud Music Library. I selected the "Merge" option and the Playlists then synced up.

I presume the iCloud Music Library was automatically disassociated with Music once I signed out of my Apple ID earlier. Just a hunch.

ME too. Exactly the same issue.

I Take it you found no way to rectify ?

No solution yet.

Definitely a frustrating problem!  I created playlists within Apple Music to replace my Spotify playlists (LOL), and when I went to play one of them over half the playlist was deleted... I added back the tunes... deleted the next day!  What a waste of time.  I hope to see an update freakin' soon.

HI

found a solution.

On my iPhone I had logged into my iTunes account with my @icloud email address but with my normal email address on my iTunes on my PC

ONce i had changed my email on my phone to that on my iTunes and synced the playlists appeared on my iphone.

When activating your free trial of apple music, apple automatically turns on a setting called iCloud Music Library.  This will have the wonderful effect of deleting all of your downloaded music and playlists and forcing you to play EVERYTHING from icloud.  So, no data connection, no music.  To deactivate, goto settings/music and the setting is right below genius.  When you uncheck this, another wonderful thing is going to happen...  You will need to resync your device to reinstall all of your music library, and all of your previous music will be converted to "other" storage.  In addition, you won't be able to use some of the apple music function of downloading to play offline.  As an added bonus, the only way to remove the "other" storage is to completely reset the phone to factory settings and re-install all your apps and media from itunes and the app store.  My music library uses over 22 gig of space.  so for it to now take 44 gigs  of storage until I can set aside an entire day to copy down passwords and settings for 280+ apps and 5000 songs.  A restore from backup (which I already tried) takes approximately 7 hours and conveniently puts the "other" storage back onto the phone.  The lack of any sort of file management, even for tech support, is an absolute joke....   just not one that is the least bit humorous.

Problem solved. First, I reset my phone in the settings menu. Then, I synced with iTunes on my mac. The playlists reappeared. Hope this helps.

BTW if you've added stuff from AppleMusic to your My Music list you'll have to merge it via iCloud or it won't show in your Recently Added list.

  1. Open the Apple Music App
  2. Select Sign Out
  3. Enter in your login info for your Apple ID
  4. Magic

This is not true. The Music app will request to turn on iCloud Music Library, you can simply opt-out, as I did.

As Rozdale suggested, try signing out, then signing in again, and confirm both iPhone and computer are using the same Apple ID for Apple Music.

Signing out of the Music app on my iPhone is exactly what caused my playlists to disappear.

I'd been experiencing a problem with a -11800 error that appeared as I tried to play any music at all, mine or the Music store's. The tracks in the list advance rapidly one after the other, and Music seems to think it played all of them but had not. I signed out thinking that might clear up the error, and when I signed back in all of my pre-existing playlists (pre-Music) were gone! The only music I see is what I've purchased from my phone before the Music app launched. When I tap on My Music > Playlists I get an option to create one.

Any other advice besides signing out and back in? Because that's what nuked my playlists...

Tried.  No change.

I even closed the app (as best as you can without restarting the phone) before logging in again.

Excellent, thank you for the tip...it worked!

Thank you. I tried so many other suggestions then your's worked fine. Thank you.

This worked for me.  Thank you.  This was so incredibly frustrating.  Apple should know better.
