MacOS High Sierra 10.13.1 System Storage keeps ...

I have recently purchased a Macbook Pro 15inch 2017 model which came with MacOS Sierra. After updating to the High Sierra 10.13 last week, my system storage showed only 12-15GB of maximum occupancy. I keep a close watch on my storage files and the space they take since im running a 256 SSD only.

After having updated to the latest update (10.13.1) last night, my system storage grew to 25GB and has been fluctuating since reaching upto 30-35GB then going back to 28-29GB. I have tried deleting caches and stuff using MacBooster 6 and uninstalled my Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 but nothing has had an effect on the System directory. Restarting the Macbook did not help either.

I'm sure something isn't right here with the System storage and i want to avoid reinstalling my Mac again since ive had some previous issues with High Sierra FileVault too. There is a reason why I have switched from Windows to Mac.

Hi,

The About This Mac > Storage report depends on the Spotlight index and may have a glitch, meaning it is too often not correct. Try rebuilding your Spotlight index, then restart: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716

If no luck, try booting into Safe Mode: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 and check out the Storage report. It won't show categories (everything will show as Other), but should show accurate the amount of free space out of the total capacity.

Also go to Applications > Utilities > System Information > Hardware > Storage to see your total Capacity and space Available.

Also click once on your HD icon on the desktop > go to File menu > select Get Info > note what it says about Capacity and Available.

These should all give you an accurate picture of total space used, which is really what you need to keep an eye on.

Hi,

I tried all the above steps mentioned and I still get the same result as the About Storage shows me. There is no glitch at work I guess

Then you may want get rid of some files. If you haven’t yet done so, backup in case you delete something you wish you hadn't. Then use one or more of the following to see exactly where your space is being used, then delete or transfer and then delete larger files (and empty the trash; you may also have to restart for the extra free space to show up) until you increase the available space to the desired level. Do not transfer/delete anything unless you're sure of what it is, and not something the OS needs:
