"Remove download" functioning haphazardly
Hi Apple people! I hope you can help!
My questions are:
1. How can I get remove download to function reliably?
2. How can I apply the remove download command to all files within a folder (e.g., all New Yorker fiction episodes)?
3. Does each episode (or song) display the blue cloud when that download has been removed?
Here's what led to my questions:
A few weeks ago, I learned that my Macbook was overly burdened by my enormous (3+? GB) podcast collection on iTunes. I deleted a lot of extraneous stuff but when I got down to what I routinely listen to, it was still too much.
Last week, I discovered the "Remove download" command and I am trying to use that on everything I won't need on my 2-week vaca to remote Wisconsin. However, the command seems to work haphazardly on my files. For example, I was removing downloads from my folder of New Yorker fiction podcast episodes, but after removing about 10 of the 60-70 episodes, even though "Remove download" shows up as an option, it will not remove any more downloads!
This is assuming that the appearance, in each file's row, of the little blue cloud is what indicates the download was successfully removed. Is that right?
When the command stopped working in the New Yorker podcast, I went to my Snap Judgement podcast folder and started removing downloaded episodes--it worked fine again. This has been happening for about a week and I give up trying to figure it out myself. To me, it remains entirely unpredictable when "Remove download" will work and when it won't and I do not get any kind of error message.
I hope someone can provide guidance because, although I see others having problems with remove download, everyone else seems to find it either works or it doesn't work at all. No one else seems to have this partial functioning problem.
I use iTunes (12.6.1.25) on my 2015 MacBook (running Sierra 10.12.5). iTunes was updated several weeks ago and, unfortunately, I discovered the "Remove download" command just last week so, I don't know if the update has anything to do with the problem.
Thank you for any guidance you can provide!
Susan
ps. I tried to attach a photo called 1.png that was 450 kb but your site kept saying that my file name must have unacceptable characters, be over 2 MB or be a non-jpg or png file, none of which was true. Just an fyi to site manager.
I've got this problem, too. No solution, though. But yes, the blue cloud w/down arrow icon tells you the episode is deleted off your hard drive and has to be re-downloaded from the cloud.
Workarounds: Right-click/control click/click on 3 blue dots next to an episode to get the context menu and select "Delete from Library". This also removes the episode from your feed in addition to deleting any dowloaded file, so may not be what you want, exactly.
