Is it safe to use APFS on a non Apple SSD?

Hi, I own a MacBook and I've changed the HDD with a fast Sata OCZ Vertex 4 SSD, so it's definitely not an Apple one I'd like to know whether it is safe or not using APFS, since I've read that checksums are done by SSD's Apple Firmware, which my OCZ SSD doesn't have, leading to a potential file corruption issue.
