Mkv won’t copy file too big

Iv been using a 2T ext HDD which is about 1.5T full, since updating to macOS High Sierra it won’t let me copy over an .mkv files.

the drive is in. Fat32 format, so I understand about no file bigger then 4g can be copied over.

i have copied an avi file(1.5gig) over to the ext hdd, but soon as I try and copy a .MKV (1.5gig) it come up with the message  “The item can't be copied because it is too large for the volume's format“

any ideas plz?

thanks

I believe you should take that message at face value and respond directly to what it is trying to tell you.

You can't put that file on that drive in the drive's current format. Do something else.

So is it something new that Apple has done, because it all worked before this latest update.

FAT-32 is an older Windows format. You can't blame Apple for this one.

If you wanted a Windows format, why are you not using ex-FAT, which has much larger limits?

The limit for FAT32 volumes is one byte less than 4GB. This issue is with High Sierra, not FAT32.

I have the same issue, and the same thing happens with .mp4 files. I was able to transfer them to my HDD with no issue, and after High Sierra I can't anymore.
