Macbook Pro 13" 2016 Erased Macintosh HD, How d...

I was doing an internet recovery on my MacBook Pro 13" 2016 model (OS 10.13). In Disk Utility, I erased the Macintosh HD. Now it has disappeared completely from the "Internal" group. Since this is all APFS I am unfamiliar with how to proceed in recreating the volume/container/partition using Terminal. At this point nothing can be done from Disk Utility.

Just Erase, and have it create whatever it thinks is a default Volume, whether that is MacOS HFS+ Extended Journaled or APFS, you should not have to care about the intricacies of creating all those abstract Volume structures.

If the Installer wants APFS Volume structures, it will create them.

If you Install MacOS from the Internet (or a USB thumb drive Installer), the Installer will create the APFS Volume structures, if it wants them. It will also create the EFI partition and the Recovery_HD that it needs. You can't do that part "by hand".

Then you can Install just your Applications and documents from your Trusted Backup.

The installer doesn’t even detect a volume to install on. So there has to be something that was erased.

What process did you use to erase the drive?

If it was Recovery_HD, it cannot erase its own partition, and that would mean you only erased the Macintosh_HD Volume.

If it was a Bootable Installer USB-Stick, you can try using its Disk Utility to erase again. From there it can erase everything on the drive.

I booted into Internet Recovery, then went to Disk Utility, then selected the Macintosh HD from the left side, selected Erase. Then the whole thing disappeared and never showed up again. Someone had this before me for testing purposes and I am not sure the APFS volumes and partitions were correct. I am going to try and post a picture of the partition list.

next step is to erase it again and specify "good old" JHFS+ Volume format.
