after pairing iPhone 6+ and Apple Watch, notifi...

After pairing my iPhone6+ with Apple Watch, notifications on the iPhone for iMessage (sounds and screen on) have stopped working. The watch makes the alert notification but the phone doesn't make a sound or light-up, although the notification is on the phone's home screen if I press the home button to activate the screen. I have latest versions of the os's on both devices. I've tried unpairing and repairing the watch. I've tried turning mirroring on and off. I've signed in and out of iMessage. Nothing seems to work. Notifications on all my other devices (ipad and macbook) are unaffected.

I'd really like to still receive notifications sounds and have the screen activate on my iphone when I receive text messages. Any solutions? I have a local news app on my phone that has the same problem so it's not just iMessage. For some reason the watch is hijacking all notification sounds and screen activation from the iphone.

Help please.

Thats how it's suppose to work.

I don't think it's supposed to work that way. Why then would would there be notification options in the settings to either mirror the iPhone or customize them for the Apple Watch? Or what if my watch is on the charger and I'm using my iPhone around the house? I'm never going to hear the tiny ping from the watch.

If the phone is locked, alerts go to the watch. If the phone is unlocked, they will sound on the phone. If the watch is on charge, they go to the phone.

Thanks. Not the solution I want but thanks for the explanation.

I did .. thanks again.

IS this a new feature. This was not happening a few days ago. I would previously get a 'tap' from the watch but still get the sound on my phone. I often forget about the notification so for them to not show up on the phone lock screen is annoying and was not happening previously.

Is there a way to make sure the messages still appear on lock screen and make a sound even if wearing watch?

I have the same problem...  My organization uses the iPhone that is issues to the IT Network team as a pager.  Some techs like the 'Ding' and the tap on the wrist other simply prefer the loud alert tone they have setup on their iPhone when being paged

1.  Press the lower right side button for 2 seconds wait for the power off off slider to appear and then power off the watch.  This will stop the blue tooth pairing and so the phone will behave as it did before the watch was paired.  Not a real elegant solution

2.  Press the lower right side button for 2 seconds and swipe the power reserve slider.  This basically does the same thing as Step #1.  Again not a real elegant solution......

3.  Lock the watch.  Press the lower right button for a couple of seconds and swipe the slider to lock the watch.  The watch will stay paired with the iPhone and the display will stay the same.  Unlocking is easy simply swipe down --- enter code to unlock ---  and go about your daily routine.  When you are ready to hear the alert tones on the phone just lock the watch again.   This is a work around ... and kinda clumsy one at that....  but at least you don't have to disable all the functions of the watch you just paid all that nice money for....  I am keeping the faith that Apple is hearing the voices of everyone and will add a 'BOTH' option to the next Apple Watch update...

Cheers,,,

I need to update my first post with addendum.....  I apologize for the multiple post...  I couldn't edit my original....

If you like step 3...  You will need to disable the option to unlock the watch with the phone in the apple watch app on the iPhone...  This is because if the phone is locked, and you receive an alert on your phone, when you unlock the phone to read the alert you will also unlock the watch so the next alert will not be heard on the phone.

cheers

I have this same problem. It's irritating. Many times I just want to glance at my phone and read the message. Now I am forced to pick it up or read it on my watch.

I also have this prblem and have actually missed some alerts because of it.  It surely must be possible to have a "Both" option available, the Apple techs are surely clever enough to sort it out.  Please help!!

If you turn off Wrist detection in the Watch app, you will get alerts on both. However, you'll need to use a passcode to do much more than look at the time. And, you won't be able to use Apple Pay from the watch.

I'm sure Apple could do what you want. The question is, do they think it's a good idea. And, as one of the things that was stressed in the initial Watch release was how it would allow you to be notified unobtrusively on your Watch rather than on your phone, I suspect they may not think it's a good idea. But, you should give them feedback.
