itunes disk image can i delete

I have a itunes12.7.dmg disk image that is taking up a lot of space. I tried to delete it with itunes open and it wouldn’t work, so that makes me wonder if actual itunes data/music is in the disk image. Can I delete it without losing anything?

It should be 268.9Mb. How large is the image that you're looking at? Do you still have an iTunes installer open somewhere that hasn't been ejected?

Yes, that is the size.

By installer, do you mean the box that says read before you install and install itunes? That popped up again when I opened the disk image icon.

Yes, you need to close that, but isn't there another icon on your desktop called iTunes with the image of a disk drive? If so drag that to the trash to eject it. Then you can delete the .dmg file it comes from.
