random messages to iCloud account missing on Ap...

I have an iCloud email account and access it via my iMac through the Apple Mail app (on Sierra 10.12.6), iPhone, iPad and once in a while, Safari — all Apple products/services, where you'd expect seamless, worry-free integration. Recently I noticed a specific message to that account, that I could see on my iPhone and iPad as well as through the browser — but that was missing from my desktop Apple Mail. It wasn't filtered; it didn't go to Junk or Trash or any other folder — it simply wasn't anywhere in the Mail app. Messages before and after that specific message had come through: Mail was still getting messages from the iCloud server, just not this specific one.

Apple Support was troubleshooting this by having me turn on and off my iMac (even unplugging it) —which had no effect, and eventually had me sign out of iCloud and then signing back in. That worked, and the missing message showed up.

Two weeks later, on a morning when I went through my unread email (on my iMac), I looked at my iPhone, which told me I had 40 unread messages — all in my iCloud account! None of these random, isolated messages had appeared in my Apple Mail on my desktop (my primary means of going through email). They're not from a single address (many of these addresses are ones that I have received messages from via Mail before and after these missing messages).

I can't figure out what is going on. And if I didn't get confirmation of their existence through other means (iPhone, etc) I would NEVER KNOW they were missing, which is a BIG problem.

I shouldn't have to sign in and out of iCloud account every so often just to correct this. Like I said, these are ALL Apple products/services!

Anyone?
