Cannot change read/write permissions on my main...

Even tho I am logged on as an Administrator, Cannot change the read/write permissions for my primary drive. Alswys states that I do not have the necessary permissions to make that change.

Currently the HD is read only and must be authenticated via password for every change.

What to do ???

That is correct. High Sierra prevents you from reducing the security on the root of the hard drive.

If this is an external, create a folder or set of folders at the root of the drive to use instead.

Or, Ignore Ownership on the volume if user security is not required.

If it is the boot drive, use the designated folders to store files in your home or /Users/Shared.

Hi

I think you are missing a step

when changing the permission for the drive, click the cog below and select apply to all sub sections" this may take a moment

Even after clicking on the cog before attempting to make a permission change, the results are the same.

I still don not have permission to make that change. Thanks anyway !

Very interesting ! Thanks for the info.

There are a dozen folders present when the HD is opened.

I can do as I please with all folders.

Installation of a new folder requires the usual Admin password.

As you stated, files can be stored within those folders w/o a password.

The folders pre-existed when the latest Hi Sierra OS was installed .

Many thanks for the lesson on Sierra Security !

You can make new ones, they just must be authenticated. You can do as you please inside of them, too.
