outdoor run is lost

I was running my first big Race with my new series 2 apple watch.  I had used it in practice and it had worked great.  In the race this morning, a 5k, I started the race and ran a PR for me.  As I crossed the finish line I tapped the watch to wake it to the race, which was recording, and slid the screen to the right and tapped END.  ...then I continued on thru the finish line, collected my award and found my friends.  Finally I went back to my watch to pull up my race and review.   BUT there was no race recorded???  I did see that my "steps" were recorded and my Move and Exercise circles were filled but there was no Outdoor Race to review???   Do I have only so much time after hitting end, to review it and tap Done.  If it "times out" does it erase the Race???
