Several Mail Problems after Sierra Upgrade
I just upgraded to Sierra. My Mail app now presents three specific issues:
1. All art and attachments appear to be stripped out of emails when sent through my TimeWarner email address. They look fine in the draft, and appear ok when I view them in the "Sent" folder after sending. As soon as I move the email to its filtered folder, all inline art disappears. When my bcc copy comes back to me, it, too, has NO art, only text. This is a major problem for me, as I use Mail to send photographs constantly.
2. I cannot send email via my gmail account through Mail, although I can receive it. Gmail server rejects address and authentication, and my local server times out and rejects address. This, too is a major problem, since it's my alternate address to my TW one, so this means I'm screwed trying to send photos.
3. Mail Preferences eliminated most of my custom signatures, seemingly choosing at random, and duplicated most of the ones it left behind. I now have to rebuild a library of approximately 20 custom signatures, which is merely annoying, but still . . . and many of these have custom art attached, which DOES NOT seem to travel with their email, either (see problem number 1).
I appreciate any help anyone can give me on any of these issues, especially nos. 1 & 2. Thanks, Apple Community!
Hey editor_bob,
Thanks for reaching out for help in the Apple Support Communities. I can see from your post you've had a handful of issues with the Mail app since upgrading to macOS Sierra. I know how important it is to have applications run as smoothly as before and want you to take advantage of the new experience offered in the new OS. There are a few questions we have to get a better understanding of the issue you're having and I've also included a series of troubleshooting options that can be used to resolve this issue for you in the links below. Let us know if this works for you.
- Do you have other internet accounts enabled with the Mail app and do you have issues with them as well?
- Do you have access to the TW account from a web browser and do the emails appear normally when sent from there?
The following link offers steps on how to rebuild your mailbox.
Mail for Mac: Rebuild mailboxes
If rebuilding the mailbox doesn't resolve this for you. We'll want to verify that the Mail settings for each account are set properly with the following link
Mail Settings Lookup
If you still run into the same issues, let's try and remove these email accounts from system preferences and re-add
macOS Sierra: Internet Accounts System Preferences
Cheers.
What is the matter with you guys at Apple, you are now messing up things rather than improving...!! I upgraded to Sierra and my gmail is messed up now. I sent emails through gmail account but I don't see it in my sent box.
I have also experienced that my WiFi dropping frequently after upgrading to Sierra...!!
Why is it that every time I upgrade recently, things are messed up. This did not happened while Steve Job was in charged (bless his sole).
Some one please help.
Thanks, norm123, rebuilding the mailboxes did seem to alleviate much of the problem. I should have noted that my main email account (TimeWarner) is IMAP, and my Google mail is POP. I was able to get Mail to send Google mail via my TW server, although it refuses to let me use Google's own server. That aside, both accounts are now sending & returning images appropriately.
I still have no idea why Mail (or Sierra) chose to randomly delete a dozen custom signatures . . .
I have had a number of problems after upgrading to Sierra, especially with MacMail. Here they are listed:
1. All my signatures disappeared
2. All my preferences, rules disappeared
3. Stuttering when mails come in
4. Mails that have been read still marked as unread (although from time to time inexplicably it works)
5. The reading pane cannot be dragged (although sometimes it can)
6. Junk function not working properly (like before)
I have rebuilt my mailboxes but problem still persist.
Any ideas who can help?
I had all the same issues, mail not working after a Sierra upgrade. I found that some of my emails were ok, and others were not. There was a setting in Google (Gmail) under Settings/ Sign-In & Security/Allow less secure apps. I turned this feature ON, and all my non working email accounts now work. I hope this helps! Some full disclosure: I still have 1 AOL that is not working, but 1 that is.
