Audio to Airpods from Mac Pro

I was on a Webex session earlier, on my Mac Pro (cylinder, thunderbolt display).   I have paired my Airpods with the Mac Pro, and it registered, but I could not get the audio to route through the Airpods; that is, even when setting this in the sound preferences.

Ultimately, I had to cancel the call as it wasn't workable with the audio level of the display.

Has anyone figured out how to get this to work?    Did I miss something?

Anyone else?  I'm on a MacBook Pro 13" model ~2 years old, running Sierra (10.12.5) and having the same issue with WebEx.  It shows connected but I hear no audio.

Having same problem on my MacBook.  Other audio works fine on AirPods but WebEx never works.
