Artwork not showing when adding to iTunes

Using iTunes 12.7.0

When adding songs and artwork to iTunes, the artwork is not showing to the left of the track listing. I have tried the sorting function, removed tracks and re-added them, encoded them in different formats, but still cannot get the artwork to appear. Any suggestions folks?
