Touch Bar "Play key" not working

Hello everyone,

I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro with touch bar and recently updated to OS 10.13 (High Sierra). Before updating my OS, I changed my touch bar to always display the display brightness, play/pause, volume, and mute buttons. I had no issues controlling iTunes or Spotify until recently. The play button has become unresponsive to playing or pausing any music on either iTunes or Spotify. Restarting my mac does help, but it just happens again over time. Does anyone experience the same problem? Does anyone have any advice?
