So many storage problems.

My phone has been out of storage for 6-8 months. I am unable to take photos, download apps, and now to store text messages. They disappear moments after receiving.

The reason for this, as explained by several folks at apple, is a software problem that they experience regularly. The phone fills up with background errors and writes over itself and fills the storage, leaving the phone basically useless. The only way to get it to work again is to wipe it clean and start fresh.

My first step this summer, in an effort to create space, was to remove the text messages (SMS/MMS) from my phone. This requires a third-party service, as apple’s icloud storage does not extend to texts. I decided on AnyTrans. It is $40. The free version only removes 1mb. I never spent the money.

After that, I (at the apple store) attempted to restore my phone to a previous backup upon several apple geniuses’ advice. I also turned off the automatic cloud backup at this point. I did this because my texts and photos had, at that point, vanished from my device (though they were still showing to take up space in my Storage). I saw most of my data return, however, the next day the device claimed to not have enough room to complete the download of the backup restore. I am unsure whether this restore ever completed, and that is where my concern lies. If it did not, I have a large gap in my photos and texts.

I hope that, by removing my text messages, I will temporarily create space enough for that restore to finish downloading. However, as that was months ago, I don’t know what will happen to everything on my phone since then. IT’S A MESS AND I’M PROBABLY GONNA LOSE STUFF NO MATTER WHAT. Also, the possibility remains that the space I create by removing texts will immediately be filled by the overwritten files/errors. That’s happened before.
