Why won't iTunes automatically back up my iPhone 6

Just upgraded from a laptop running Windows 7 to to a new one running Windows 8.1.  On the new laptop, iTunes will not automatically backup my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.3).

Not sure what you are referring to when you say an iTunes automatic backup. The only automatic backup is an iCloud backup that will automatically kick off when the device is locked, connected to Wifi, and plugged into a power source.

On the old computer (Win7), every time I plugged the phone into the computer, it would sync and backup.  On the new computer (Win8.1), when I plug the phone into the computer, it starts iTunes, but doesn't back up.  The box is checked to automatically back up to this computer.  It will only back up when I click on the back up now button.

Not sure why it wouldn't be working the same way. Do you have your iTunes Preferences set up to Automatically Sync? Sounds like you may have had it set up that way in the previous Window OS.

I have automatic backup to iCloud, so can't really test out what you are experiencing. But do check your Preferences under the iTunes menu option to make sure you have that set up the same way you had it previously.

Yes, they are set up identically.  I had them running side by side tonight to verify...

ditto for iPad.

iPhone automatically backs up when connected to Win7 PC but iPad (set for automatic backup to "this computer") does not.

i am having same problem after reinstalling win10 ...
